I am the kind of person who likes cute things. The problem is, I don’t usually know what's cute until I see it on someone else. I have a hard time going to the store, seeing something on a hanger and thinking “oh, that is cute.” I have to see it on someone.
One day my co-worker pulled out the cute little pill box that she purchased. It had little compartments, and it came with stickers to put on it that would label which each pill compartment was, Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc. I thought to myself, “what a great idea.”
Now, I don’t suffer from headaches, I am rarely sick, I don’t have any of these medicines just lying around, but I wanted one.
I ended up purchasing one, placed the cute little stickers on the little sections and bought all different kinds of medicines to fill it up .... just in case I needed one.
Little did I know, I would end up needing one every day. I had a headache for days. I remember on a Sunday morning I woke up and I was like, “I am fed up with this headache. I have had it for a week straight” That’s when I realized it. I had fallen into agreement with something. I had allowed the enemy to have a foot hold.
I literally spoke out loud after my realization and took authority over this.
“I break agreement with you in the name of Jesus Christ. You are not welcome in my body. You need to flee!” and I threw the pill box in the trash.
Guess what?! I didn’t have a headache anymore and I haven’t had one since.
What little things in our lives have we made agreements with that are not meant for us?
“I am always sick”
“They always forget my order at restaurants”
“Nothing ever goes my way”
“I will never forgive them”
“Depression runs in my family”
Do not fall into agreement with these things that are not meant for you. You can repent, renounce and speak God’s word over you instead.
Be alert and of a sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
The tongue has the power of life and death and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
Romans 12:2 tells us not to conform to this world. But how often do we just want what we see without thinking about if it is good for us. We often don't think too long about the effects it may have on us. This is likely one of the reasons He tells us to be alert and of a sober mind.
